Theresa A. Ortscheid, age 59, of Springfield, SD, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away at home unexpectedly on October 11, 2022 of a heart condition.
Theresa was born on March 4, 1963 to Darrell "Red" T. Smith and Elaine Morrison (Griffin). Theresa was married to John L. Banta from May of 1980 to February of 1992. Together, they had two daughters, Heather and Samantha.
Theresa married the love of her life, Mark E. Ortscheid in the fall of 1996 and they lived in Wisconsin Rapids, WI - though Theresa's heart always pulled her back to Springfield, South Dakota, where she had her happiest childhood moments spending time with the Wynia family.
Theresa and Mark purchased a property in 2012 in Springfield, SD, converting it into a lodge. They then purchased and managed the Springfield Inn - formerly the Wagon Wheel Inn - which had been a longtime dream of Theresa's.
Theresa helped countless clients who then became her friends and family with their financial plans for many years as a financial representative with Primerica. She loved helping people get out of debt to be financially free. Owning and running the lodge and motel allowed Theresa to enjoy frequent visits with her siblings and friends, as well as her lodging guests, but most of all she enjoyed her time with her grandchildren. She was a passionate woman who stood for her principles no matter the situation.
Mark preceded Theresa in death on March 14, 2022.
