1. Obituary. Ernest L. Wood,age 83,of LaCrosse and formerly LaFarge,died Thursday,October 15,1992 at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua. He was born on June 9,1909 in Warren,WI. to Elmer T. and Lulu M.(Lamb) Wood.He served in U.S.Army 1942-1945,spending over two years in the Military Police on foreign soil. On March 12,1947,Ernest was united in marriage to Valeda Lombard in Viroqua. Ernest worked with the clearing crew and later as groundskeeper for Dairyland Power in LaCrosse until his retirement.
In addition to his wife,Valeda,Ernest is survived by his sisters; Laura Haugrud and Orpha (Manlin) Hughes,both of Westby,Lydia Benish of Hillsboro and Ervilla Kyser of Viroqua;One brother Buford (Marie) Wood of Sparta;sister-in-law,Dorothy Wood of Janesville,and Beverly Wood of Rantaul,IL.,several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and trwo brothers,Kenneth and Jack.
