PLATTEVILLE - Modesta K. Kopp, age 86, of Platteville, died on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Heartland Health Care Center in Platteville. She was born on May 9, 1920, in Lancaster, the daughter of John and Mary (Morehouse) Ertz. She married Norman C. Kopp on July 1, 1941, at St. Clements Catholic Church in Lancaster. Norman preceded her in death on July 28, 1974. She worked at Gipp's Smart Apparel, as a housekeeper for many Platteville families, and for St. Mary's Rectory. Modesta had a flair for fashion and she will be remembered for her love of swimming, bike riding, and flowers; and for her faith in God. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her seven children, Steve (Paula) Kopp of Livingston; Dan (Charlene) Kopp of DeWitt, Iowa, Tom (Connie) Kopp of Port Washington; Joe (Kathy) Kopp of Platteville, Mary Pothour of Madison, and Rita (Dan) Steinbach and Ann (Jim Mueller) Runde, both of Platteville; three sisters, Anna (Robert) Kitto of Monroe, Joan Brackett of Lancaster, and Frances (Richard) Dent of Wisconsin Rapids; two brothers, Joseph (Delight) Ertz of Wisconsin Rapids, and Eugene (Claire Abelle) Ertz of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Hale of Platteville, and Tatine Kopp of Ducktown, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Don (Margaret) Kopp of Madison; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents; two sisters, Louise Pink and Rita Ertz; and son-in-law, Gene Pothour. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2006, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Platteville. Monsignor Charles Schluter will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. The rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Sunday immediately followed by a V.F.W. Auxiliary Service. Memorials may be given to the Modesta Kopp Memorial Fund. The Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, is serving the family.
