Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor MaryAnn Floerke will officiate. Burial will be at Rock Church Cemetery, Livingston. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Madge M. Genthe Memorial Fund. Madge was born on July 25, 1927 in Grant County, Wisconsin, daughter of Gilbert and Anita (Gundlach) Knutson. She was united in marriage to Frank J. Genthe on August 30, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Platteville. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2007. She worked at the Burgess Battery Factory, Platteville. She later went to work at Dick's Supermarket, Platteville, where she worked many years until her retirement. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She and Frank spent many years on the Wisconsin River after retirement, in Sauk City. She enjoyed reading, drawing, painting and crocheting. She was a Badger, Brewer, and Packer fan. She always looked forward to the Green Bay Packers playing the Chicago Bears since she and Walter Payton shared the same date of birth.
Madge is survived by her two children, Richard (Sharon) Genthe of Madison; Sharon (Dave) Zastrow of Watertown; five grandchildren, Brandon (Kaisha) Genthe, Nick (Erin) Ratelis, Jennifer (Nathan) Schmeling, Eric (Robin) Zastrow and Tyler Zastrow; seven great-grandchildren, Braxton Genthe, George and Maggie Ratelis, Blake and Raina Schmeling, Bently and Chloe Zastrow; brother, Roger (Chris) Knutson of Livingston; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Gene, Cecil and Bryan "Nip" Knutson, sisters, Charlotte English and Beverly Wells.
Madge married Frank J. Genthe, son of George August Genthe and Mabel Stark, on 30 Aug 1947 in Platteville, WI, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
