1. Obituary. Thomas J. Shaw, 68, of Tomah died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Franciscan Hospital, La Crosse. He was born Aug. 23, 1947, to Joseph and Loretta (Bigelow) Shaw in the town of Bryon. He was united in marriage to Margaret Gilmore Oct. 11, 1969. She preceded him in death July 8, 1990. He was united in marriage to Joan M. Richer Aug. 31, 2002. He proudly served his country in Vietnam, and was a U.S. Army Veteran. Tom was a self employed dry Waller for over 28 years; he also worked as a plumber at Fort McCoy. He, and his wife, Joan, were the owners and operators of T.J. Woodworking; he loved working with his hands. Tom enjoyed playing cards, and Yahtzee. He was an outdoors man, enjoyed hunting and fishing; he especially enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and Michigan. An avid sports fan for the Green Bay Packers & Milwaukee Brewers. Tom was known for his story telling, and as a talented musician playing his guitar. He was a member of the 6 Tons of Music band, with his brothers and sisters at Rustic Restaurant in Oakdale. A proud grandfather, his grandchildren were his life! They will always treasure memories of singing with Grandpa as he played his guitar.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, two daughters, a son, four grand-daughters, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Donald, Ronald and Robert Shaw; six sisters, Rose Ross, Ardella Garber, Sylvia Brady, Myrtle and Marie Shaw and Mary Ames; and a special nephew, Gary Shaw.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah. Burial at a later date in Oakdale Cemetery.
