Evaristo "Speedy" DaSilva, 73, of Tomah, passed away at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse Tuesday, May 15, 2012.

Evaristo was born Nov. 27, 1937, to Joseph and Teresa (Silvia) DaSilva in the Azores-Sao Miguel, Portugal. He came to the United States via Ellis Island when he was 10 years old. He was raised in Long Island, N.Y. When he was 19, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Madison, where he met his wife, Georgia Franklin. He married Georgia and together they raised five children.

Evaristo is survived by his wife Georgia of Tomah; his children, Teresa (Dan) Loos of East Hampton, N.Y., Tina Lamb of Gypsum, Colo., Toni (David) Walley of Warrens, Evaristo Jr. (Kay) DaSilva of Henderson, Nev., and John (Colleen) DaSilva of Tomah; nine grandchildren; one great- grandchild; along with other relatives and good friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah, with Pastor Jay Cronholm officiating. Family and friends called for visitation on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah, assisted the family with arrangements.
