Virginia "Jenny" Mae Johnson, 78, of Tomah died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Close to Home in Tomah. She was born August 29, 1934 to William and Ethel (Shaw) Slater in the Town of Byron, Monroe County. She was united in marriage to Joseph Lovelace on October of 1952. She was united in marriage to John S. Johnson December 6, 1975. He preceded her in death May 16, 2010. Jenny worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Tomah, until her retirement. She also worked for ACE Cab, the Cranberry lodge, and the Greenwoods Café. From Sunrise to Sunset she was always active. Jenny alongside her husband John, worked maple trees, for 25 years at J & J's Sugarbush, they would also make jewelry out of rocks they collected. She was good with a needle and thread and early in her life would sell her Crocheting, later in life she would embroider and quilt items that she would donate to charity functions and items that she would give to her family. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking homemade meals for her large family. She had a giving heart and drove for senior services. She had a passion for collecting can tabs for Ronald McDonald Charities. She enjoyed traveling, time spent fishing, and camping. There were many fishing and camping trips on the Mississippi river, and she was a lifetime member of the Good Sam Club.

She is survived by three sons, Larry (Esther) Lovelace of Bolivar, MO, and Delmar (special friend Becky Godfrey), and Richard (Pam) Lovelace of Tomah, a daughter Tami (Glen) Dougherty of Wilton, , 3 step-sons, Thomas of Sparta, David (Betsy) of Richmond, VA, Carl (Debbie) of Tomah, 3 step-daughters, Sharon Johnson of Sparta, Marcella Haschke of Hillsboro, and Valerie Johnson of Mauston, , a step-son-in-law David Liek of Tomah, 8 grandchildren, Ian and Christian Lovelace, Heather and her children Noah and Mercedes, Brandi Lovelace and Jazmyn (Jason) Weinzatl, their children Jenica, Jayden, Jaxon, and Jerrick, Gina (Charlie) Anderson and their son Levi, and Kati Ladron, 18 step-grandchildren, and 17 step-great-grandchildren , 14 brothers and sisters Kathleen (Robert) Crook of Tomah, Shirley M. Taylor of Kenosha, William C. (Darlene) Slater of Kenosha, Lawrence (Jane) Slater of Silver Lake, Darryl (Rhonda) Slater of Bristol, Douglas Slater of Perrysburg, OH, Anthony (Denise) Slater of Kansasville, Albert L. (Susie) of Mineral, VA, Ronald G. Slater of Washington, MD, Patricia A. (Thomas) Weddle of Green Bay, Raymond (Linda) Slater of Tomah, Rueben (Cindy)Slater of Desoto,, Dorothy (Rick) Wojtak of Wellman, IA, Cherryl (Terry) Johnson of Litchfield, OH, special friend Homer Parker of Holmen, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Terryl Jean Slater, a sister Julia "June" Heintz, a step-daughter Dianne Liek, and a step-daughter-in-law, Cheryl Johnson.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013, 2:00 P.M. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah. Pastor Edwin Stigen will officiate. Burial will be at Warren-Mills Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
