Phylis Marie Henry

1. Obituary. Phylis Marie Curkeet, age 93, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Nov. 26, 2021 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Feb. 8, 1928 in Grant County, WI, daughter of Clarence and Rethel (Pritchett) Henry. Phylis was united in marriage to Bernard L. Lyght in 1946 and they had four children, Bernard H., Lorraine, Robert and Mary Jean Lyght. Phylis married Loyd Curkeet on Oct. 6, 1966.

After graduating from a nursing assistant program, Phylis worked at the Platteville Municipal Hospital for 15 years before moving to Madison in 1970. There, she worked in the newborn nursery at St. Mary's Hospital. After five years of employment, she left the healthcare field to work with her husband as the office and dispatch manager for their family-owned business, Tri-County Towing. In 1997, Phylis and Loyd sold their business and retired.

Phylis enjoyed working with her hands and could often be found tending to the beautiful flowers in her garden or crocheting. She was a long-time member of the Buckeye E. Free Church (Door Creek E. Free Church) where she served on the Senior Ministry Team, in addition to participating in other volunteer work.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd; her sons, Bernard Lyght, Jr., Robert Lyght, Donald Curkeet, Loyd Curkeet, Jr.; daughters-in-law, Connie Lyght and Anna and Arlene Curkeet; granddaughter, Melissa Curkeet Ciarlette; her parents; sisters, Edith Riechers and Della Schaal; and brothers, Edward, Harold, Wilbur, Marvin, Larry and Roland Henry.

Burial will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Phylis married Bernard Laverne Lyght. (Bernard Laverne Lyght was born in 1924 and died in 1999.)

Phylis next married Loyd Curkeet on 6 Oct 1966. (Loyd Curkeet was born on 20 Dec 1927, died on 7 Feb 2016 and was buried in Madison, WI, Sunset Memory Gardens.)
