1. Obituary. Wayne R. Shepherd, 73 of Albuquerque, NM, and formerly Galena, IL passed away in Albuquerque after a short battle with cancer. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions a celebration of life and burial will be held at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is in charge of local arrangements. He was born April 25, 1947, in Hanover, IL the son of Robert W. and Thelma I (Antone) Shepherd. Wayne graduated from Stockton High School with the class of 1965. He served as a radar operator in the United States Air Force including assignment in Thailand, from August 30, 1966, until his honorable discharge on February 10, 1970. Wayne was united in marriage to Maureen M. Sanderson in May of 1973 in Galena. He was very active in his community serving as a Cub Scout Leader, Little League Coach, Member for 44 years and Past Exalted Ruler and Trustee of Galena Elks Lodge #882, Albuquerque Elks Lodge #461 for 2 years, Veterans Services Chairman for Albuquerque Elks Lodge #461, Galena United Methodist Church for 46 years and Past Finance Committee Chairman and Hanover VFW Post #5300 since 1970. Wayne is survived by his wife, Maureen M. Shepherd, his son, Robert W. Shepherd, his favorite granddaughter, Madelyn K. Shepherd, all of Albuquerque, NM, two sisters, Lynette (Michael) Duffy, Edgerton, WI, and Marlene (Robert) Dawe, of Springfield, IL, sister in-law, Ruth Sanderson, of Willmar, MN, two brothers in-law, Jim (Pamela) Sanderson of Boise, ID, and Edwin "Nubs" Cole, of Galena, and his Australian cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, two brother's in-law, Dale S. Sanderson and Gary Keith Sanderson and sister-in-law, Carol A. Sanderson Cole.
