A Platteville mother and son became the third and fourth traffic fatalities in Grant county this year in a two car crash on an icy township road Saturday Donald Bell 25, was killed instantly and his mother Mrs. Robert Bell 48, died at the Platteville hospital as the result of their car colliding head-on with an auto driven by Jerry Udelhofen, route 2 Plattevlle The accident occurred on a hill crest on a Harrison township road about nine miles I southwest of Platteville at 1:45 pm. Grant county traffic officer Lloyd Runde who investigated the accident said that at the point of impact it appeared that the Udelhofen auto was traveling on the wrong aide of the partially ice covered gravel road. Udelhofen was taken to the Platteville hospital where he was reported to be suffering from lacerations of the chin and legs, fractured ribs and tooth damage. Both autos were totally demolished by the crash. Chief deputy sheriff Roy Graney and deputy coroner John Turner assisted in the investigation Mrs. Bell is survived by her husband, two daughters Darlene and Susan, and one son Richard all at home. Donald Bell is survived by his wife, the former Betty Holmes and one son Donald John. Officers stated that an inquest may be called by county coroner Dr Leo Becher.

Services were held Thursday for Mrs. Robert Bell, 48, and son, Donald, 25, who were victims of a traffic crash. The Combat Support Company, Wisconsin National Guard, held graveside military rites for Donald. The former Inez Eastlick, Mrs. Bell was born in Harrison township and was married to Robert Bell in 1933. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Darlene and Susan, and son, Richard, at home; her mother Mrs. Clarence Eastlick, Platteville, three brothers, three sisters, and a grandson Donald Bell was born in Harrison township and graduated from Platteville High School in 1955. In 1957, he was married to Miss Betty Holmes, who with his son, John, and other relatives, survive him. He was employed with John Deere, Dubuque.
