This community was startled Sunday noon when a messenger came to town saying that Mrs. N.C. Austin was dead. It was not even known that she was sick, and her death after an illness of but a few short hours fell like a pall upon the entire community. Funeral services, largely attended, was held at the house, Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. Linn of Hawkeye officiating, and her remains were laid to rest in the Dunham Grove Cemetery.
Effie J. Miner was born in Ohio, December 29, 1850, came to Iowa when a child, was married to N.C. Austin, November 29, 1869, and has resided on the same farm in Center Twp., from her marriage to the time of her death, which occurred March 20, 1898.
She was the mother of six children, of whom four awaited her on the other shore. Two sons, with her husband,mother, three sisters and three brothers survive her. She was much beloved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed not only in the home but by the entire neighborhood and in the Randalia W.R.C. of which she was a member. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community. She was the daughter of Almon C. Miner and Eunice A. Allyn. Her children were Bert Nathaniel Austin,Effie Mae Austin, Mertie Austin,Charles Albert Austin, Bernice C. Austin, Ruben Cornelius Austin.
