1. Obituary. Ethel Pearl James, 85, of Eldon died Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Parkside Manor, Columbia, MO. She was born July 14, 1929, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Jerry C. and Opal Bird. She was married to Howard D. James on March 28, 1948, who preceded her in death on July 26, 2008.

Mrs. James is a member of the Eldon First Baptist Church. Her husband, Rev. Howard James, was an ordained Southern Baptist minister and pastored at Aurora Springs Baptist Church and various churches in the central Missouri and northern Arkansas areas for over 55 years. Ethel was a dedicated wife and mother, aiding in her husband's ministry, compassionate care-giver and inspiration to all who knew her.

Surviving her are four daughters, Sheryl Apperson and Robert Sparks Eldon, MO, Donna DeVier and husband Charles of Rochporte, MO, Sandra Johnson of Caulfield, MO and Rachael Anderson and husband Craig, Atoka, TN, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Jerry O. Bird and wife Naomi, Hazelton, IA, and Levi Bird and wife Mariam, Batavia, IL and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 15 to the time of service, with services to begin at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 15 all at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Mrs. James will be cremated with a private inurnment service at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Dementia Society of America.

Ethel married Howard Dildy James on 28 Mar 1948. (Howard Dildy James was born on 16 Oct 1923 and was buried in Eldon, MO, Eldon Cemetery.)
