Obituary, Unknown date & newspaper, provided by Shirley Ann (Manning) Webb, May 2002: ------------------------ "RESTING" "Emeline Asbury was born in Hancock county, Indiana, Mary 6, 1837, and came to Wisconsin in 1855, settling with her parents on a farm near Victory, Vernon county. In November 1858, she was married to James Baker who died a year later, leaving her with one little daughter. In 1862 she was married to Thomas Asbury of Vernon county, who survives her. She was the mother of 11 children, three of which died in infancy, and knew the fortunes of war, as her husband was a soldier of the Union during the Civil War." "She died at her home in the Gray settlement on April 4th, 1910, having been a cripple and a great sufferer during the last twenty years, but through all was so patient and kind that her life was a living lesson to all who knew her. Funeral services were held at the L.D.S. church in Valley Junction, on April 6, and she was laid to rest in the Wood settlement cemetery, by the loving hands of her friends and neighbors." "Mother, just across the river, Rest at last, thy suffering o'er; And tho we shall miss thee ever, Till we reach the other shore, Where the Savior in his mercy, Knows the ways and lives of men And we all shall be united, Where the loved ones meet again." ============ A short handwritten bio of Emeline written by one of her children - possibly Delilah: "Sketch of the life and suffering of Dear Mother" Emeline Roberts was born in Hancock Co., Indiana {Virginia first written and then crossed out}, May 6, 1837. In 1855 she came to Wisc with her relatives. In November 1857 she was married to James Baker. In about seven months Mr. Baker died leaving his wife and one child born Oct. 23, 1858 {7 crossed out, replaced with 8}. On May 25, 1862 Emeline was married to Thos. H.
