LANCASTER, Wis. -- Donald G. Peake, 68, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, South Lancaster Township, after a battle with lymphoma cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Christ Lutheran Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. David Froemming officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Martin Funeral Home, Lancaster. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

He was born on Feb. 19, 1941, in Lancaster, son of Glenn and Bertha (Wieland) Peake. Due to his mother's illness, his grandmother, Martha (Behnke) Wieland helped raise him in childhood.

Donald was a 1959 graduate of Lancaster High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1963. He taught social studies and English at Potosi Community Schools for 34 years.

He married Virginia Edge on Oct. 10, 1986, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.

He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as an usher, greeter, Sunday school teacher, and lay reader. Donald also freely associated with the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster, serving as an usher, greeter and lay reader. In retirement, he was a member of the Platteville Area Retired Educators Association, served as a volunteer bingo caller at Orchard Manor for the Christ Lutheran Church women's group, and was a volunteer at the Passages Thru Time Museum in Potosi.

Donald was an avid Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Flying Arrows football fan.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Peake, of Lancaster; his son, Bryan Peake, of Lancaster; his mother-in-law, Carol Edge, of Platteville; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, John Edge; his brother-in-law, Douglas Edge; and aunts, uncles, cousins, including a special aunt, Edna Cummins.
