• Obituary. From Ancestral.com; file no. 30646- P.S. Weittenhiller, 72, died at his home in Crane yesterday morning. He had been suffering from heart trouble and Monday did some heavey lifting, the strain causing greater leakage of his heart and hastening the end. The body was prepared for burial at the Clevenger Funeral Home in Burns and returned to the home at Crane where funeral services are to be held this afternoon. His wife and son will accompany the body to Garfield, Wash., for internment. Mr. Weittenhiller is survived by his wife, a son Clyde Weittenhiller of Crane, and a daughter, Mrs. Kerr, who resides in the east. Occupation: farmer and land speculator Religion: member of the Methodist Church At the age of twenty, he left for California and stayed for about two years, before going to Alaska. While in Alaska, he became a U.S.Marshall and Customs House Officer. He also owned a little vessel and engaged in shell fishing. In 1882, he returned to Wisconsin and married Nellie Jones, the daughter of Obed K. Jones. They were married in the present Whig Church. They returned to Alaska, where their first daughter Clara, was born. She was the first white child to be born in Juneau. In 1886,they returned to Kansas, and then on to San Antonio, Texas. In 1910,in San Antonio, Nellie passed away at the age of 42. He then moved the children back to Iowa. He then went to Florida, where he opened a real estate office and also plotted a town sight. He returned from Flordia and moved the family to Spokane, Washington,where they lived for 2 years. In 1912, he became interested in Harney Valley and the town of Crane, Oregon. Also cultivated around 2000 acres. In 1917, he married Myra R.Hanson (nee Ross). He had 4 children 2 of whom passed away before he did. He died on November 13, 1930 of a heart attack.
