GEORGE TRACY, 27, PULLED INTO BLADES AND BODY SEVERED THREE TIMES. ------ A horrible accident occurred on the Louis Roddick farm three miles east of Ellenboro last Wednesday afternoon.
George Tracy, 27, son of Jos. Tracy and wife who reside two miles southeast of Ellenboro in Harrison, was sawing lumber on the Roddick place with John Armstrong, Irving Miles and Joe Roddick. The men were using the Tracy mill and Joe Roddick engine to saw logs into lumber for farmers.
The accident happened about 4 o'clock. Mr. Tracy was sawing a piece of timber for a woodrack, on the portable saw mill, and was holding it in place with his foot. It is probable that he slipped as he was carried on to the saw and the body cut intwain diagonally.
The other men saw the accident but were unable to stop the machinery in time as the whole thing happened in an instant. Witnesses state that the unfortunate young man was terribly mangled the body being torn in three different places.
Death was of course instantaneous. The men phoned Platteville and an undertaker came for the body. The nature of the accident was such that an inquest was not deemed necessary.
This is the second great misfortune to visit the Tracy family in a little over a year. In December 1918 Sam Tracy, another brother, was killed in an accident in France when some soldiers built a bivouac fire and were lying beside it. A shell exploded tearing the boy's back open. He died soon after. George Tracy, killed last week, was also overseas. The funeral was held under military auspices Saturday at Whig. The surviving relatives are the father and mother and two brothers and sisters.
