1. Obituary. Warren "Doug" Butson, 88, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Private family graveside services will be at the Whig Cemetery, rural Platteville. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com. Doug was born on October 23, 1930 in Lima Township, son of Warren and Elizabeth "Annie" (Tracy" Butson. He attended Bunker Hill School and Platteville High School. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Ellis on October 20, 1950 at the Platteville Methodist Church. Doug and Gert farmed in Liberty Township and later in Ellenboro and Lima Townships. Doug worked at the Dubuque Pack. He was the first security officer at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He later worked in housekeeping at UW-P and for the Chicago Bears training camps. He was a member of the Whig United Methodist Church and VFW Post #5274. Doug also volunteered at the food pantry. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; daughter, Michele Bartels; son, Kevin (Mary) Butson; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren, with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald.
