SHULLSBURG, Wis. -- William J. "Bill" Edge, 84, of rural Shullsburg, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home, Cuba City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, with the Rev. Ron Fladseth officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery, New Diggings. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1925, in New Diggings Township, son of John and Jennie (Hall) Edge. He married Priscilla Steinhoff on Sept. 23, 1949, at United Methodist Parsonage in Cuba City.
Bill was born and raised on the family farm in New Diggings, from which he retired in 2001.
He was a member of the New Diggings Town Board from 1965 until 2001, 15 years of which he spent as town chairman. He also served as the president of the Shawnee Cemetery Board from 1961 to 2007. Bill took great pride in serving his community. He attended the Primitive Methodist Church in New Diggings.
Bill enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, playing cards, fishing, hunting, carpentry work and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a beloved father figure for all the lives he touched.
Surviving are his wife, Priscilla; four children, Phyllis (Harold) Peart and Chuck (Nancy) Edge, both of New Diggings, Diane (Elton) Self, of Scales Mound, Ill., and Karen (David) Lacke, of Lancaster; a sister, Jean Edge, of Shullsburg; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Julie Edge; four sisters, Eileen, Dorothy, Audrey and Velda; and a brother, Lyle.
William married Priscilla Mae Steinhoff, daughter of Guerdon William Steinhoff and Hannah Edwards, in 1949. (Priscilla Mae Steinhoff was born on 18 Sep 1932 and was buried in New Diggings, WI, Shawnee Cemetery.)
