1. Obituary. Donald J. Poller, 71, of rural Platteville, died Friday, Apr. 29, 1994, at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison. He was born on Aug. 23, 1922, in Linden Township, Iowa County, the son of William and Minnie Feathers Poller. He was married to the former Alyce Stoner on June 22, 1944, in Mineral Point. He farmed south of Platteville and operated Poller's Auction Services there for 31 years. He was also well known for shearing sheep. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville. He is survived by his wife, Alyce, of rural Platteville; four children, John (Nancy) Poller of Belmont, Mary (Ron) Vinger of Green Bay, Philip Poller of Platteville, Rebecca (Tom) Foth of Trumbull, CT; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Mildred Staskal of Boscobel; and Helen Brugger of Platteville. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Peter, in infancy; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Vernice (Stagman) Poller in 1977; and a brother, Guerdon Poller. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville. Burial of his remains will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery. The Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, was in charge of arrangements.
