Platteville- LaVerne H. Bottomley, age 85, of Platteville died on Tuesday, February 18, 1992, in Gray's Nursing Home in Platteville. He was born on December 3, 1906, in Seymour Township, Lafayette County, the son of Walter and Elvie (Thomas) Bottomley. He was married to the former Fern Riege on February 24, 1931. She died May 13, 1977. He farmed in the Platteville area his entire life. He was a member of the Westview Methodist Church in Platteville.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Elaine (Richard) Cline of Platteville; four sons, Dr. Wayne L. Bottomley of Platteville, Donald Bottomley of Love Park, Illinois, Robert Bottomley of Janesville and Richard Bottomley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters; Mrs. Paul "Lela" McReynolds and Mrs. Helen McReynolds both of Platteville; and a brother, Roy Bottomley of Platteville. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother William on September 4, 1990.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 21, 1992 at the Bonin-Bendorf Funeral Home in Platteville. The Reverend John Sargent will officiate. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery, Darlington. Friends may call from 4 until 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Laverne married Fern Lorena Riege, daughter of Harry Henning Riege and Rosetta Belle Tarrell. (Fern Lorena Riege was born on 19 Feb 1911 and was buried in Darlington, WI, Union Grove Cemetery.)
