PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Mervin Michael "Mike" Broihahn, 59, of Platteville, passed away suddenly Thursday, July 14, 2011, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville, with the Rev. Faustino Ruiz officiating. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, Platteville. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

He was born on Oct. 25, 1951, in Dubuque, son of Mervin and Berniece (Langkamp) Broihahn. He graduated from Platteville High School in 1969.

Mike served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years.

Mike's favorite hobbies included playing cards, fishing, watching the Badgers, bowling and trying to master his newest hobby, golf.

Surviving are his daughters, Amy (Scott) Gilmer, of Guyton, Ga., and Angie and Kelly Broihahn, both of Madison; a grandson, Aidan Gilmer; his parents, Mervin and Berniece Broihahn, of Platteville; his brother, Fred (Amy) Broihahn, of Madison; his sister, Peg (Don) Kershner, of Sun Prairie; nephews and nieces, Zach, Brent and Paige Kershner and Jenna, Jake and Joey Broihahn; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Barbara Jean; and grandparents, Henry and Elizabeth Langkamp and Frederick and Elizabeth Broihahn.
