1. Obituary. POTOSI, Wis. -- Michael K. Pickel, 58, of Potosi, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, at Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
He was born on June 10, 1951, in Hazel Green, son of Keith and June (Birkett) Pickel. He married Marilyn Digman in 1972, where they were blessed with four beautiful children.
He farmed in Ellenboro Township, Grant County, for many years. He worked for Iverson Construction and the city of Platteville for five years in the street department.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the Mississippi River in Cassville. He was an avid Packers, Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers fan. Michael especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are four children, Tricia (Larry) VanNatta, of Lodi, Brandi (Mike) Petry, of Hudson, Casey (Michelle) Pickel, of Platteville, and Kip Pickel, of Darlington; five grandchildren, Tiffany and Elizabeth VanNatta, Peyton and Isabella Petry and Lainee Pickel; his parents, Keith and June Pickel, of Platteville; three sisters, Penny (Steve) Droessler, of Platteville, Rhonda (Jim) Tollefson, of Fennimore, and Lynette (Donnie) Clayton, of Platteville; a brother, Scott Pickel, of Waukegan, Ill.; a special friend, Denise Bast; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and Stacy Bast.
