1. Obituary. Gladys D. Avenarius, age 82, of Oshkosh, died Friday morning August 6, 2004 at Fond du Lac Lutheran Home in Fond du Lac.
She was born November 11, 1921 in Mercer, WI, the daughter of Edward and Charlotte (Keyes) Calkins. Gladys married Harold Waterman, Sr. in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1949. She married Harold's brother, Edward Waterman in 1957; Edward preceded her in death in 1966. She married twice more, once to Melvin Keeley, who preceded her in death, and finally to William Avenarius, who preceded her in death August 25, 1991.
Gladys worked in the cafeteria of John Deere for twenty years in Dubuque, Iowa, moving to Oshkosh in 1987 upon her husband's retirement.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, participating in Grace Circle and Grace Forever Young.
She is survived by John and Pat Waterman of Iowa; Harold (Linda) Waterman of Dickeyville, Wisconsin; William (Dixie) Waterman of Potosi, Wisconsin; Charles (Lynn) Waterman of Oshkosh; James (Denise) Waterman of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; and Anthony (Nancy) Keeley of Portland, Oregon; two brothers: Merle (Dee) Calkins of California and Bernard Calkins of Oshkosh. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Gaylord and Raymond Calkins and one great grandchild.
Funeral services for Gladys will be held Thursday, August 12, 2004 at 5 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 913 Nebraska Street, Oshkosh. Rev. Gregg Schoeneck will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of servicesCIn lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church or Fond du Lac Lutheran Home are most appreciated.
