1. Obituary. Orville F. Goke, 89, of Platteville, died on Monday, October 09, 2017 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Orville was born on February 24, 1928 on the home farm in Platteville, the son of Orville Sr. and Helen (Rottiger) Goke. He graduated from Platteville High School in 1946 and UW-Platteville in 1957. Orville then went on to work for Stacee Milling in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. After working for the milling company he attended UW-Madison where he received his Master's Degree. From there Orville went to work for Northeastern Illinois University until retiring in 1969. After retirement he worked for the Wisconsin barge lines and enjoyed going out west on several occasions to work the wheat harvest; which he did for four years and made many friends through those trips. Orville lived life to the fullest and enjoyed his trailer at Lake Joy and his wonderful nieces and nephews.
Orville is survived by two sisters-in-law, Janice (Eugene) Digman and Debra Goke; nieces and nephews, Mike (Brenda) Denn, Cindy (Jim) Reiter, Candy (Mark) Hilt, John (Kathy) Clark, Brian (Laura) Johnson, Kathy Fairchild, Erica Meek, and Ashley Meek; and many cousins, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale and Richard Goke; two sisters, Cleo (Walter) Johnson and Carol (Kenneth) Denn; and niece, Mary (John) Baxter.
