PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Geraldine M. Kay, 83, of Platteville, joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 22, 2010. She died peacefully at Southwest Health Center surrounded by her son and daughter. God granted her peace, clarity and the opportunity to share an earthly farewell with her family and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville, with the Rev. Jeff Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, rural Platteville. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. The Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on July 19, 1927, in Harrison township, daughter of Ernest and Leona (Schiffman) Bertram. She grew up in Platteville, working hard on the family farm. She stayed on the farm, working through World War II, and later obtained her GED and CNA.
She married James A. Kay in 1950; he preceded her in death after 57 years of marriage in August 2007. They farmed in rural Platteville after they were married.
She later worked at various hospitals as a CNA. After retirement, she moved to McFarland for several years to help care for some of her grandchildren while her daughter attended medical school and completed her internship and residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. When she moved back to Platteville in 1998, she enjoyed being a grandmother. She deeply loved each of her six grandchildren and most recently her new twin great-grandsons.
Geraldine married James A Kay, son of Albert James Kay and Mildred Olson. (James A Kay was born in 1925 and was buried in Platteville, WI, Harrison Cemetery.)
