1. Obituary. James Joseph Palzkill, age 64, of Mineral Point, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 20, 2009 at his family farm. Jim was born on July 10, 1944 at St Joseph's Hospital in Dodgeville the son of Herman and Mary (Detwiller) Palzkill.

He graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1962. He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1962 and served eight years until his honorable discharge. On November 11, 1967, he married Judith Speth at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2000. He was then united in marriage to Carol Ankenbrandt on October 20, 2001 in Dodgeville.

Jim began his career at Wisconsin Power & Light as a lineman and continued to work for the company for over 30 years until retirement in March of 1998. Jim missed his work and came out of retirement to do consulting work with Alliant and ATC for seven more years.

Jim spent everyday working on the family farm, which he took pride and joy in. He lived life to fullest and enjoyed fishing, farming, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Jim was a Charter Member of the Mineral Point Lion's Club and dedicated his life to helping others. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim was also an avid Packer fan.

Jim is survived by his wife Carol, three daughters, Lori (Daniel) Cerutti, of Dodgeville, Paula (Dennis) Johnson of Mt. Horeb, and Denise (Eric) Blomquist of Falcon Heights, MN; two stepsons, Jim Swanson of Baraboo, and Anthony Swanson of Pensecola FL, 10 grandchildren; John Palzkill, Morgyn Ray, Melissa Ray, Bryant Ray, Joey Cerutti, Devin Cerutti, Jorden Johnson, Breanna Johnson, Ada and Eamon Blomquist, three step-grandchildren. Three sisters, Judy (Norm) Montgomery of Beloit, Rita (Jerry) Whitford of Monona, and Joyce (Rod) Phelps of Cottage Grove, ten brothers, Ed, Mark, Roger (Patty), Brian (Barb), Joe (Cindy), Bruce (Anne), all of Mineral Point, David of Tucson, AZ, Ronald (Kathy) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Wayne of Edgerton, and Scott (Linda) of Linden; his father-in-law, Leon Laubscher; his sister-in-law, Nancy Laubscher.

He is further survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy, granddaughter Mandy Ray, brother-in-law, Donald Speth, Pat Tierney, Clarence Bennett, and Russell Helms. Jim's quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's / St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mineral Point. Fr. James W. Hinnen officiated. Burial was held at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
