PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Dorothy L. Humphrey, 98, of Platteville, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Heartland Health Care Center, Platteville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Platteville. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1910, in Platteville, daughter of Charles O. and Emma (Lory) Manuell. She married Marion Lyle Humphrey on July 1, 1943, in Platteville; he preceded her in death in 1956.
Dorothy worked at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Lab School for many years in food service. She also attended school and became a nurses assistant, where she worked, at Gray's Nursing Home, Platteville.
She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, a volunteer for the Red Cross and a foster grandmother.
Dorothy enjoyed knitting, reading and traveling. She was an avid Cubs and University of Wisconsin Badgers Hockey fan.
Surviving are three daughters, Emma (Stan) Jones, of Columbus, Ruth Humphrey, of Platteville, and Barbara (Ron) Kuhls, of Fond du Lac; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Humphrey, of Livingston; and a sister-in-law, Isabel Manuell, of Platteville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Charles, in 1974, and Thomas, in 2002; two sisters, Florence Wilson and Ruth Newell; and a brother, Donald Manuell.
