Rosa D Olvera
1. Obituary. Rosa (Lola) Verdesoto, 89 of Platteville, Wisconsin died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 25th at her home. Lola was born on August 7th, 1921 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. She was the daughter of Luciano Olvera and Rosa Alvarez de Cavanna. Lola was married to Dr Jose' (Pepe) Verdesoto O. on April 20th, 1941 and enjoyed 47 years of marriage before he passed away in 1988. Lola was an extraordinary woman who loved life and lived it to its fullest. She loved to dance and sing, and enjoyed helping as many people as she could. In Ecuador Lola worked at two TV stations giving live cooking shows, needless to say she was a great cook! She loved to read and was very involved in local politics in Ecuador. After the death of her husband she moved to Platteville in 1988 and resided at Jenor Towers. She lived there 7 years before moving in with her daughter and son-in-law Monse and Mark McFall where she enjoyed her last 7 years. She was very devout in her faith and prayed faithfully every day for the people she loved by name. She loved telling stories of her husband and her life in Ecuador to her granddaughters, and no detail was too small! One of the highlights of her life was becoming a US Citizen in 2003 at the age of 83. Lola never spoke English, but could communicate with anyone. She was proud of her Hispanic heritage, and when President Bush visited Cuba City she was in the front row…and when the President passed by she gave him an Ecuadorian greeting with a hug and a kiss. The secret service weren't too pleased with someone grabbing the President and were even more surprised when he kissed her back! What made her sparkle were her five great-grandchildren with the youngest one due in March, they brought her pure joy! There are too many stories and too little paper to make you see and feel who this great lady was. Lola is survived by two daughters, Mariuxi Verdesoto of Guayaquil, Ecuador, and Monse (Mark) McFall of Platteville, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Kelly (Fernando) Rogante, Jenny (Matthew) Goodman, Jose' Fernando (Mafer) Rivera, and Mariuxita Rivera; four great grandchildren, Jose' Alfredo Rivera, and Lucas, Lolita, and Octavius Goodman. Lola had six siblings Elena Moncayo, Fanny Olvera, Matilde Olvera (deceased) Cesar Luis Cavanna (deceased) Maria Teresa Cavanna, and Antoneta Ruiz. Rosa married José Verdesoto Dr, son of Juan Evalgelista Verdesoto and Rosa Enma Oyague, on 20 Apr 1941. (José Verdesoto Dr was born on 10 Jun 1915 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, died on 20 Feb 1988 and was buried in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Cementerio General de la Junta de Beneficencia.)
