Stella M. Burkhead
Mrs. Stella M. Burkhead, 85, of 158 East Jackson St., Monroe, widow of Loren Burkhead, Sr., died at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Adams county memorial hospital, where she had been hospitalized two days.
She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and a charter member of th United Methodist Women's organization.
Born in Jasper county, Ill., on March 10, 1889, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Polly Ann Poe-Boxley. She was united in marriage with Loren Burkhead, Sr., on Nov. 28, 1914, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1958.
Surviving are six children, Loren Burkhead of Monroe; Jack Burkhead of Van Wert, O.; Virginia Burkhead of Monroe; Mrs. Louis (Drusilla) Hartman of Covina, Calif.; Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Meddock of Warren; Mrs. Douglas (Wanda) McFall of Carmi, Ill.; one brother, Arnold Boxley of Newton, Ill., 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Two daughters preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Winteregg-Linn & Haggard funeral home, with Rev. Donald E. Wilks officiating. Burial will be in the Ray cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. tonight.
