SERJ. NATHANIEL SUTLIEF, Jr.

Married Sarah Savage, of Rehoboth, Mass. After his father was killed at the battle of Deerfield, he went in early childhood to live at Rehoboth, probably with a brother of his father, where he remained until his marriage and the birth of his first child, when he returned to Deerfield, Mass. His mother in the meanwhile had married Samuel Harrington, and gone to the home of the latter at Hadfield, near Deerfield, thence (1680) to Branford, Conn., with her husband and the other of her children by Nathaniel, Sr. Serj. Nathaniel, Jr., finally moved to Durham, Conn., about 1704, first joining the church at Branford; was elected the first constable of Durham, became a man of property and great infiuence in that community, and was elected representative for four successive terms. He died April 1, 1732.

His wife was born March 10, 1674, at Rehoboth, and died July 4, 1733. Both buried at Durham, Conn.

SERJ. NATHANIEL SUTLIFFE Jr.
Son of Nathaniel (1) and Hannah (Plympton) Sutliffe, was born in Medfteld, Mass., in 1672. Removed with his parents to Deerfield, Mass., in 1673. He was Selectman in Deerfield in 1702. He then moved to Branford, Conn. The Church Manual gives his name and his wife's name in 1704. He then moved to Durham, Conn., and at the first town meeting held in Durham he was elected Constable.

The Durham History states that Nathaniel Sutliffe took an active part in matters pertaining to church and education. At a town meeting in Durham, October 3, 1714, it was voted by the town "that the meeting-house be seated and also the Town by voate made choyse of James Wadsworth, Caleb
Seward, Jr., Nathaniel Sutliffe, William Seward and Henry Crane to be a committee to seate sd house." He was Representative from Durham for four years, 1728-29, '30-31.

Serj. Nathaniel Sutliffe married Sarah Savage (daughter of John of Rehoboth) in 1691 or 1692.
