At age 3 sailed to America with mother. Father had come ea rlier. Lived in Dausmau, Wi until 1871. Family moved to B rush Prairie, Bloomer. Some years later moved to Chippew a Falls, WI. Later to Rice Lake, WI.

Bernard married Christina Regina Vester, daughter of Philip Peter Vester and Katherine Krebs, on 6 May 1890 in Chippewa Falls, WI. (Christina Regina Vester was born on 27 Jan 1866 in Germany, died on 6 Jul 1948 in Rice Lake, WI and was buried in Rice Lake, WI, St Joseph's Catholic Church.)
