Made combs out of buffalo horn. Worked in the mines of Gal ena and farmed. They came to America on their honeymoon. T hey had planned to go to Canada but a storm blew them to Ne w Orleans instead of New York. Maria carried the money un til they landed, then she gave his younger brother his mone y. He went out to see the town but he never came back . T hey waited 3 days and left word that they were going on . But they never heard of him again. They came up the Mis sissippi River as far as Fairview, Wis and then their mone y gave out. They were Catholics when they lived at Hazel G reen but the Catholic people were all Irish and could spea k no German. The Methodists spoke German and were good t o her when her babies were sick. So Grandma went to the Me th church. Grandpa went 3 years to the Catholic church an d then went with Grandma. It was said that Maria chased th e priest out of her house with a broom after the priest cri ticized the Protestants helping her with her sick child wh o died. ![]() Frederick married Mary Ann Genoveve Feger on 20 Mar 1839 in Fernach, Baden. (Mary Ann Genoveve Feger was born on 28 Dec 1818 in Oberkirch, Baden, Germany and died on 27 Aug 1887 in Hurricane, WI.)
