• Obituary. Don R. Quist,72, of Necedah, and formerly of Tomah, died Wednesday September 15, 2021, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Tomah. He was born May 3, 1949, to Clifford and Arlene (Chapman) Quist in Sparta. He attended the Watermill Country School. At a young age Don was a hard worker and was his grandpa's right-hand man on the farm. He was a member of the Tomah Senior High School Graduating Class of 1968. After high school Don joined the U.S Army National Guard. He served in Desert Storm and was stationed in Saudi Arabia. He was member of the Grassman-Larsen-Sowle-Senz American Legion Post #201. He was in 107th Maintenance Division and retired as a Sergeant in 1991 after 24 years of service. Don also worked for the 7-up company as a delivery driver. He was united in marriage to Myrna Littlejohn on June 27, 1998. They enjoyed traveling together and visited Oklahoma to visit his sister Wanda, and trips to Alabama, North Carolina, and North Dakota. He enjoyed playing pool, and had a passion for buying, selling and trading cars. He took immaculate care of all of his vehicles, he had an eye for detailing, waxing and washing. His vehicles were always in top notch shape. Don loved his family, and enjoyed taking his grandchildren for rides, taking them fishing, and making them laugh. Don had a heart of gold and a loving laughing personality.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Myrna of Necedah, his sons, Joe (Melinda) Clark of Winona, and Troy (Sara) Quist of Tomah, 2 step-children Dennis Butterfuss of Sparta and David Butterfuss of Tomah, 11 grandchildren, 4 sisters Judy Villarreal of Hudson, Wanda (Ron) Carlson of Prague, OK, Nancy (Jim) Phillips of Tomah, and Jennifer (Bart) Dana of Sun Prairie, sisters-in-law Ginger Quist and Pam Quist both of Belvidere, IL, Sally Cheek of Ashville, NC, Martha (Jim) Davenport of Sparta, Marie Gutzmer of Madison, Margaret (Bill) Suhr of Alabama, Adrienne Howe of New Jersey, Mary (Larry) Johnson of South Carolina, Marion (Randy) Amundson of Cashton, a special companion in his dog, Ruby, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, LaVerne and his twin brother Ron, 2 brothers-in-law Lou and Maurice, and 2 nephews Travis Phillips and Chris Quist.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021, 12 Noon at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St. Pastor Frank Ross will officiate. Burial will be at the Wood Cemetery with military honors by the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201.
