• Obituary. LaVerne C. "Verne" Quist, age 55, of Belvidere, Il died Saturday evening, November 26, 2005 in Tomah Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.

Verne was born June 6, 1950 in Sparta, WI the son of Clifford and Arlene (Chapman) Quist. He married Pamela Aten on November 5, 1977 in Belvidere. The past 3 years, Verne worked for the Illinois Tollway Authority as a toll taker, a job he truly enjoyed. He belonged to the N.R.A and was an avid hunter and fisherman. When Verne was not working he loved to spend time with his family, always making time for his grandchildren and assisting Chris with the demolition derby.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela of Belvidere; mother, Arlene Quist of Tomah, WI; children Christopher (Brandi) and Jarrid (Valerie) both of Belvidere; grandchildren, Alexis, Gabriella, Angelique, Adriana and one baby girl expected in December; bothers and sisters, Judy (Lou) Villarreal of Justice, IL, Wanda (Ron) Carlson of Sparks, OK, Ron (Ginger) Quist of Belvidere, Don (Myrna) Quist of Tomah, WI, Nancy (Jim) Phillips of Tomah, WI, Jenny (Bart) Dana of Sun Prairie, WI; brother in-laws, Jan (Laura) Aten, Kevin (Karen) Aten and Kent (Karon) Aten all of Belvidere; special nephew, Troy (Sarah) Quist; special friend, Bob Eaton; nieces and nephews, Jacob, Stacie, Joe, Brett, Bryan, Tina, Tammy, Staci, Traci, Justin, Alec, Jason, Mark, Matt; numerous great nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles, Roger (Joann) Chapman of Tomah, WI, Delcie (Wayne) Smith of Belvidere, Peg Strong of Florida.

Verne is predeceased by his father, Clifford and nephew, Travis.

Funeral Information

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere with Rev. Jon Critchfield officiating. Burial will be at Highland Gardens of Memories. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov.30 at the funeral home. www.Buckwheelerhyland.com.
