Death of Mr. Fowler
Fowler-Burgiss Fowler was born in Hancock, West Virginia, Nov. 3[0], 1844, and died at his home in this city July 30, 1914, of hardening of the arteries. In 1855 he moved with his parents to Sauk county, this state, and from thence to Richland County in 1860. He enlisted in Co. H 17th, Wis., Infantry Vols. and served nearly three years in the Civil War, being with Sherman in his campaign and March to the Sea. He received an honorable discharge at Louisville, Ky., July 14, 1865. In 1869 Miss Mary Jane Norman of Henrietta, Wisconsin, became his wife. To this union two children were born viz:-Willie Allison and Winnie Jane. Mrs. Fowler died in 1885. On July 30, 1887 Miss Mary Bulin of Hillsboro was married to Mr. Fowler. Unto them were born five children, viz: Burgess Elgin, Charles Alfred, John Wesley, Bessie May and Jesse. Mr. Fowler was in poor health for about two years preceding his death. He leaves a widow, seven children and two sisters to mourn his death. In the days before affliction came over him, he was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Pine River, Wis., and for years was class leader, and Sunday school superintendent. Funeral services were held from the M.E. church last Saturday afternoon, Rev. F.R. Harding officiating. The text was taken from "First Peter, first chapter, last two verses and first two verses of second chapter." A large number of friends attended the obsequies. The city flag hung at half mast during the services, and the casket was covered with flowers and draped with the American flag. Members of the W. P.(?) Mitchell Post G.A.R. escorted the body to the grave and gave the ritualistic service of the order. Burial was in the New Lisbon Cemetery. Relatives from out of town in attendance were:-Mrs. Mary Ayers, Royalton, Minn.; Joseph Bulin and son William of Hillsoror; Mr. and Mrs. Al Fowler and son Clayton of Mather, Wis. The Times-Argus extends sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives.
