1. Obituary. William Allison Fowler was born in Yuba, Wis., Nov. 9, 1875, and died Feb. 11, 1940 at the age of 64 years, 3 months, and 2 days.
When but a boy his parents moved to Hillboro, where they lived until 1897, when he, with his parents moved east of Mather to what has since been known as the "Old Fowler Place."
In 1900, he married Mabel Stickney and they went to live at the Appleton marsh. There, their only child, Clayton, was born in 1905.
Later they moved to what was known as the William's Cranberry Co.'s marsh, and for 27 years he was manager and one of the stock holders.
In 1935 he bought a marsh and they moved there and started to improve it, for he had always taken a keen interest in the cranberry industry.
He has been an enthusiastic worker for all civic interests to his town having been on the town board for years, both as board member and chairman.
Al, as he was konwn to all his friends, will be lovingly remembered for his good nature for he always had a smile, a laugh, or a friendly argument for all who knew him. He was a favorite with older people, a pal to his colleagues, and a playmate and friend to all children.
The family may find comfort in the knowledge that the place in the home made vacant by his going has always been filled by a kind husband and loving father, a true and loyal neighbor.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Mabel, his son Clayton, and three grandchildren, Virgil, Donald and Harold.
His sister, Winnie Barns, Richland Center, Wis., his step-mother, Mrs. Mary Fowler, New Lisbon, Wis.; step-brothers, Elgin Fowler, Wausau, Wis.; Charles Fowler, Des Plaines, Ill.; Westley Fowler, Wisconsin Rapids; Jesse Fowler, Des Plaines, Ill.; step-sister, Bessie Gable, Washington D.C.; besides a wide circle of acquaintances and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held from the Community Hall in Mather on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30, the Rev. A.E. Fredericks of Sparta officiating. Burial was made at the Mather cemetery.
