Richard was born December 31, 1939 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to the late Leonard and Helen (Schultz) Christensen. He graduated from Alexander High School in Nekoosa in May, 1958. Following graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1959 to June 1962, during which time he was stationed in Italy, Turkey, Germany, San Angelo, TX, San Antonio, TX and Myrtle Beach, SC. Richard was employed by Nekoosa Papers - Georgia Pacific (Domtar), retiring from there after more than 30 years of employment.
He married Ruth Bedessem in January 1962; the marriage ended in divorce.
He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Futurist Hunting Club and La Crosse River Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends while duck and deer hunting and socializing with friends on ""Wisdom Corner" at Trails End.
Richard is survived by his children; Scott Christensen of Nekoosa, Cacy (Keith) Winker of Viroqua, WI, grandchildren; Dakota Gollnick, Miranda Hartje, Rene Christensen, Charisma Christensen, Austin Winker, sisters; Shirley Howland of Stevens Point and Carol Benjamin of Seminole, FL; brothers; John (Elaine) Christensen of Bradington, FL, Kenneth "Tom" Christensen of Nekoosa, James (LaVina) Christensen of Nekoosa, Dennis (Kay) Christensen of Nekoosa and Duane Christensen of Houston, TX, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters in-law, Kathleen "Beanie" Christensen and Barbara Christensen; and brothers in-law, Patrick Benjamin and Charles Howland.
