Obituary: Herald and News, 27 Dec 2012. Luella Babcock, 90, left us peacefully on Dec. 21, 2012, with her family by her side.
Luella, known to her grandchildren as Pretty Grandma, was born on Nov. 4, 1922, to Willard and Gertrude Shaw in Tomah, Wis., and is now at peace in the arms of our Lord.
She married Howard E. Babcock and together they had 10 children. They spent the majority of their early life traveling back and forth from Wisconsin to Oregon following agricultural work, eventually settling in Klamath Falls, working in potato harvest.
Luella loved talking about "old times." While her memory of current events was not always precise, her memory of days and events long ago was amazing. One small question would lead to hours and hours of wonderful conversation. There was always a story to tell and, for many, family history to be learned. She has left her family with a lot of great memories, including camping, picnicking, trips to Wisconsin, family events, and her infectious excitement when she played Yahtzee. Her laughter and her smile will be forever missed by everyone.
She is survived by her children Dorothy Delaney (Garland), Larry Babcock (Rosena), Rodger Babcock (Marsha), Kenneth Babcock (Romie), Darlene Hicks (Martin), Charlene Paradis, and Paul Babcock, 25 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and sisters Fran Payne and Bea Wingerson (Bob).
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Babcock, sons baby Earl and Jack Babcock, and daughter Caryol Deering.
A service of tribute and love will be held at Eternal Hills Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m.
