Grace E. Genthe, 86, of Platteville, died on Sunday, Jan. 22, at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at the first English Lutheran Church, Platteville. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Rev. Terry Larson officiated. Friends called on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Bendorf funeral Home, Platteville, or from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Grace E. Genthe memorial fund.

She was born on Jan. 3, 1920, in Lafayette County, the daughter of James and Mildred (Benedict) Edwards. She graduated from Belmont High School. She was united in marriage to Charles Genthe on March 6, 1940 in Platteville. She worked for Shultz-Brothers for 29 years in Platteville. She was a member of first English Lutheran Church, Platteville. She was a volunteer at the Platteville Thrift Shop and Meal Site. She loved to play cards, do crafts and was an avid Packer fan.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Abing of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Vivian Genthe of Monroe; 12 grandchildren: Lisa (Bart Whitaker) Abing, Amy (Jim) Larson, Renee (Gordy) Hellwig, Jamie (Chris Bradley) Ward, Ryan Abing, Nathan Abing, Kirk (Marcy) Genthe, Angie (Howard) Laube, Kevin (Colleen) Genthe, Ember Genthe, April (Mike) Franks, and Kyle Genthe; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Margaret (LaVerne) Bann of Bradenton, Fla.; Eleanor (Dale) Noble of Platteville; Betty (special friend Everett Yadoff) Sudmeier of Preston, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Edwards of Dodgeville; Joan Edwards of Belmont; brother-in-law, Bill Swart of Platteville; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Lynn in December 2005, one grandson, Brad Abing, three brothers, Robert, David, and Russell Edwards, and two sisters, Isabel Anderson and Florence Swart.

The Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, is serving the family.
