Jacob was with company C, 7 regiment, WI. From the History of Grant County, WI, 1881; "In the fighting on the (May) 12th, the Seventh was the first regiment to relieve Hancock's Corps, then holding the first line of the enemy's intrenchments,....... In the remaining battles of the Wilderness, the Seventh bore a prominent part. The casualties for this campaign were; Company C ....wounded, privates ...Jacob Rice". He died September 27, 1864. Jacob was married to Nancy Augustine March 20, 1844 in Mercer Co., PA. They moved to Grant County, WI. and had 8 children. Daughter Catherine married Jacob Burkholder, my grandparents.

Jacob married Nancy Anna Augustine, daughter of John Augustine and Elizabeth McFall, on 20 Mar 1844 in Mercer County, PA. (Nancy Anna Augustine was born on 4 Sep 1825 in OH and died on 7 Jan 1872.)
