1. Miscellaneous. Jacob was the son of David and Catherine Klinedinst Burkholder. The family moved from Ohio in 1856 to Grant County, WI. Jacob married Catherine Rice on December 10, 1865 and they had nine children, Allen, Walter, Ida, Flora, Effie, Rena, Mannie, Gus and Edith.
2. Obituary. JACOB BURKHOLDER DEAD
Jacob Burkholder, son of David and Catherine B. was born in the township of Roscoe, Ohio, October 30, 1837, and died at his home in Platteville, Oct. 18, 1916, after a long illness.
He came with his parents to Wisconsin in 1854 and was married to Catherine Rice at Platteville, Dec. 10, 1865. To this union were born four sons and five daughters, all of whom are living in Platteville but one daughter, Mrs. Hull, who resides at Polo, Ill. He leaves three sisters and twenty-five grand-children, besides his widow, to mourn their loss.
In Jan. 1861 Mr. Burkholder enlisted in the war of the Rebellion at Platteville and joined Co. C. 7th. Wis., Reg., Vol. Inf't, and served under General Grant and was engaged in the battles of Wilderness, Spotsylvania court house, Cold Harbor, North Anna, and in the siege of Pettersburg. He was also appointed to be an noncomissioned officer, and was honorably discharged at the close of the war.
Funeral services were held at his home at Platteville, Friday at 2 p.m. Internment in Greenwood cemetary. F. F. Wolfe officiating.
Jacob married Catherine Rice, daughter of Jacob Daniel Rice and Nancy Anna Augustine, on 10 Dec 1865. (Catherine Rice was born in 1847 in WI, died on 29 Sep 1939 and was buried in Platteville, WI, Greenwood Cemetery.)
