1. Obituary. PLATTEVILLE - Phyllis E. Cushman, age 90, of Platteville, died on Friday, March 2, 2012, at her home. Funeral services are pending at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.

PLATTEVILLE - Phyllis E. Cushman of Platteville, died after a year of celebration of her 90th birthday on Friday, March 2, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was born on Nov. 24, 1921, in Wiota Township, the daughter of James J. and Ida C. (Trotter) Scott. She was united in marriage to Faun W. Cushman on Dec. 31, 1938, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1991. Phyllis was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Platteville, PEO the Platteville Golf and Country Club and several bridge clubs. She was a volunteer and very giving of her time for many organizations and community functions for Platteville. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.
She is survived by seven children, Jacqueline Kay (James) Kingeter of Platteville, Joanne (Paul) Reese of Platteville, Joyce (Gary) Battles of Aurora, Colo.; Judith (Paul "Joe") Martens of Platteville, Thomas (Sherry) Cushman of Beckley, W. Va., Terrence (Cheryl) Cushman of Platteville, Todd (Dena) Cushman of Beckley, W Va.; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Arlene Scott of Platteville, Florence Davies of Kings Mountain, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Jill Clayton on Dec. 28, 2008; brothers, Homer, Clifford, Clayton, James and Harlo; sisters, Wanda Atter and Doris Brechler.
A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 9. 2012, at the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, Platteville, the Rev. Catherine Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Following the burial a time of fellowship and dinner will be at the Platteville Golf and Country Club. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the MELBY-BENDORF FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, Platteville, or from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Phyllis married Faun William Cushman, son of Roy Willie Cushman and Agnes Verna Baker. (Faun William Cushman was born on 14 Oct 1918 and was buried in Platteville, WI, Hillside Cemetery.)
