Walter A (Wally) Wenzel, age 85, of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, and formerly of Platteville, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice in Madison, Wisconsin. Walter was born in Stitzer, Wisconsin, on August 3, 1920, the son of Albert and Lillian (Devlin) Wenzel. He was united in marriage to Virginia Genthe on September 25, 1948, in Platteville. Walter served in the US Army during WWII in Europe, doing mechanical work on many types of equipment including tanks. He was employed at the John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works for 35 years until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the UAW Local 94 and was a charter member of the Platteville VFW. He loved to do woodworking an go fishing and enjoyed his antique cars. Walter is survived by his wife, Virginia; seven children, Connie Bakken, of Stoughton, Wisconsin; Linda Wenzel, of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; Ron (Marge) Wenzel, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Kay (Bob) Honzelka, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Steve (Susan) Wenzel, of Bozeman, Montana; Gary (Marcie) Wenzel, of Portage, Wisconsin; and Patti (Steve) Joyce, of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchilodren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Stanley Wenzel.

Walter married Virginia Mae Genthe, daughter of George August Genthe and Mabel M Stark, on 25 Sep 1948 in Platteville, WI. (Virginia Mae Genthe was born on 6 Aug 1928, died on 7 Jul 2010 in Madison, WI and was buried on 10 Jul 2010 in Platteville, WI, Hillside Cemetery.)
