1. Obituary: Platteville Journal, 9 Jul 2010. PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Virginia M. Wenzel, 81, of Cottage Grove, formerly of Platteville, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at St. Mary's Care Center, Madison.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a Veterans of Foreign Wars Service. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call after
9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1928, in Grant County, daughter of George and Mabel (Stark) Genthe. She married Walter "Wally" Wenzel on Sept. 25, 1948, in Platteville; he preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 2006.
Virginia worked at Schultz Bros. and Dick's in Platteville.
She was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary, since 1949.
"Ginny" cherished and spoiled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, relaxing along the river at Snuffy's, a glass of wine and all of her friends.
Surviving are seven children, Connie Bakken, of Stoughton, Linda Wenzel, of Manitowoc, Ron (Marge) Wenzel, of Sheboygan, Kay (Bob) Honzelka, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Steve (Susan) Wenzel, of Bozeman, Mont., Gary (Marcie) Wenzel, of Portage, and Patty (Steve) Joyce, of Cottage Grove; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leroy (Joyce) Genthe, of Cuba City.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Schoen; and brothers, Charles, George, Robert, Roger, Frank and Harold Genthe.
Virginia married Walter Albert Wenzel, son of Albert Herbert Wenzel and Lilian Agnes Devlin, on 25 Sep 1948 in Platteville, WI. (Walter Albert Wenzel was born on 3 Aug 1920 in Ellenboro, WI, died on 2 Aug 2006 and was buried in Platteville, WI, Hillside Cemetery.)
