  Noted events in his life were:

1. Obituary: Grant Co. Herald, Jan. 11, 1911. Jacob Wieland who was carried to the grave by a large number of friends Dec. 29, 1901, was born in 1833, Grisch, Canton Graubuenden, Switzerland.

He was married young to Dorothy Truog whom he knew from childhood, in 1853. In May 1857 they arrived in Dubuque, Iowa with two sons. This was in a hard and struggling time. Being a laborer for some time, he then went into a dairy business in which he had a success.

Residing there for sixteen years, with his two sons now grown to manhood, he bought a farm near Hurricane in 1873. Here he worked with a skill and had success, until in the year 1900 when his beloved wife was taken from his side. Then on account of age he sold his farm, two years later when he was married to Mrs. Bertha Van Eschen of St. Louis. She was from his native country. There he has made his home until death. Duties and business called him back to his old home every year, where would then spend a few months visiting with his children.

Nov. 6th he arrived here accompanied by his wife to see after his duties as usual and seeming in good health. On December 24th, he was taken by a stroke of paralysis. The evening before, went to bed well as usual, the next morning his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Hoehn, with whom he was staying, found him in this sad condition. At first it didn't seem serious, but two days later at 2 p.m. another stroke followed, taking him away two hours later. His age was 77 year, 24 days. May he rest in peace.

Jacob married Dorathea Truog, daughter of Christian Truog and Christina Thoeni. (Dorathea Truog was born on 27 Nov 1831 in Switzerland, died on 14 May 1900 in Lancaster, WI and was buried in Hurricane, WI, Hurricane Cemetery.)
