1. Miscellaneous. Rudolph Wieland was born May 2, 1808, in Grüsch, Graubünden, Switzerland, the son of Rudolph Wieland and
Luzia Götz. He was married three times and is the father of both Jacob and Joseph Wieland. Son Jacob emigrated to America in 1857. According to family stories, Rudolph Wieland was a member of the Swiss Guard and walked all the way from Berlin to Paris. He arrived at the Port of New York Oct. 27, 1864 on the ship Cella from Le Havre, France and London with his third wife, Maria Truog, her son Frank by a previous marriage, sons Joseph (Josua)and Christian. The family first settled in Dubuque Co., Iowa and later moved to Grant Go., Wis., where Rudolph died in 1882. He is buried in Hurricane Cemetery.
