1. Obituary. Death came suddenly to Christian Vesperman at his home on East Mineral Street, Platteville, Tuesday night, Oct. 24. He had retired and after talking with his wife they decided to go to sleep. As he turned in bed he seemed to catch on the clothes and when his wife asked what was the matter he told her to "call the doctor." but he was beyond help when the physician arrived. For some time he has been careful of himself, but the end came with only about 20 minutes of sickness. He was next to the last of a family of six children of Christian and Henrietta Vesperman.
He was born in British Hollow, Oct. 20, 1857, and was 76 years and four days old at the time of his death. He attended the Rockville school and early became a farmer. He was married to Salena Wieland, and they made their home on a farm they rented, but which soon he bought.
Eight children were born to them on the farm. Twenty years ago Mr. Vesperman retired and moved to Lancaster. Two years ago he moved to Platteville and Nov. 23, 1931, he was married to Elizabeth Kitto and they have made their home on East Mineral street. Mr. Vesperman joined the Rockville German Presbyterian church over 60 years ago, and as long as he could was prominent in the music of that church.
Besides his wife he leaves three sons; Adolph Vesperman, living west of Ellenboro, Walter, living in Lancaster; Rudolph, now of Eau Claire, Wis. There are four daughters: Laura, Mrs. Albert Wieland, living at Arcadia, Wis.; Rose, Mrs. Louis Vesperman, living east of Lancaster; Millie, Mrs. John Vesperman of Lancaster, and Dora, Mrs. C. A. Lange of Milwaukee. He leaves also a brother, Otto, of Lancaster.
The funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 27, from the Congregational church of Platteville. The Rev. Robert F. Merritt of that church officiated. The remains were placed in the family lot at British Hollow cemetery. Publication: Grant County Herald, Lancaster, Wis., Wed., Nov. 1, 1933
