1. Obituary. MISSOULA - Lois A. Melder passed away on June 1, 2002, at St. Patrick Hospital.

Lois was born on July 8, 1924, in Lewistown, the daughter of Andrew and Minnie Udelhoven. She grew up on a ranch north of Winifred, where her parents homesteaded in 1913. She graduated from Winifred High School in 1942.

In September 1942 Lois moved to Missoula, where she attended Modern Business College. She then worked for the Montana Power Co. and Buttrey's Department Store. She served as secretary for the First Presbyterian Church from September 1961 until retiring in April 1984.

Lois met George E. Melder when he worked at the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Winifred. She married George on June 8, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown. They celebrated a wonderful life together, culminating in their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996.

Lois enjoyed camping, boating, square and round dancing, as well as working in her yard and gardens. Lois was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Missoula, where she taught Sunday school, served as a deacon and was active in the women's association.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, four brothers, one sister and a special sister-in-law, Blanche Christensen.

She is survived by her daughter Linda and son-in-law Bob Fisher of Parkville, Mo.; son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Julie Melder of Glenrock, Wyo.; son Craig and daughter-in-law Susan of Billings; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at First Presbyterian Church, 201 S. Fifth St. W. Cremation has taken place with inurnment at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of choice.
