HANOVER, Ill. -- Bill E. Shepherd, 85, of Hanover, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, with the Rev. Bill Plomberg officiating. Burial will be in Ever-green Cemetery, Hanover. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home.
He was born in 1924, in Dubuque, son of Ernest and Amey (Redmond) Shepherd. Bill graduated from the Platteville High School with the Class of 1942. He was a World War II veteran serving in the 20th Armored Division from 1943 through 1946, in the European Campaign. Bill received a Bronze Battle Star.
He married Elizabeth "Betty" Potter on March 8, 1947, in Galena.
Bill worked for many years at the Savanna Army Depot as chief of equipment. He was a member of the Hanover Veterans of Foreign Wars and a past member of the Shriners.
Most important to Bill was spending time with his family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Jamie Seitz, of Pine Springs, Minn.; a son, Bill (Rita) Shepherd, of Garden City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Max and Abbey Seitz and Sarah and Audrey Shepherd; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; and three sisters, Dorothy Pothour, Marjorie Spolnick and Geneive Trotter.
