1. Obituary. Richard Dean BUSHNELL Was born December 2, 1935, to Ray and Dorothy Bushnell of Plateville , Wisconsin, into a family of strong faith and ethical values which he perpetuated in his own life. As the 7th of 8 siblings, he was doted upon and admired by his family and friends. He was proud of and connected to his family heritage and had planned on attending the national family reunion this summer and then going on to England to further research his heritage. He passed away peacefully and comfortably at home on April 27, 2007, holding the hands of his wife and his children. Dick knew who he was and where he was going. He was state chairman for the Nelson Rockefeller Presidential campaign, 1962 Man of the Year for Washington State Young Republicans, and was cited in 1965 as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America. He had been President of Young Republicans of King County, 32nd Legislative District Chair and one of the founders of CHECC (Choose an Effective City Council). He had a great love of history and politics. After a career in public relations, he became owner of Totem Press in Seattle where his primary concerns were for the welfare of his employees and service to his customers. He was a graduate of Seattle Pacific College, member of Marrakesh (Palm Desert) and Sand Point Country Clubs and member and past president of the College Club of Seattle. There was music in his soul and he loved to sing and dance, that love having come from his mother who was an accomplished pianist. He loved to debate, always respectful of those who held opposing views. He was a fantastic cook and a gracious host. His music, especially in his home and his Wessington Springs (S.D.) Quartet, brought joy to many others as well as to himself. His proudest role, however, was that of father to his children, Jonathan Bushnell of Chandler Arizona, and Sara Winnick (husband, Mike) of Issaquah, Washington, and Gramps to Anna and Noah Winnick. He was a loving husband to his wife, Jean and has taken care of her through a lengthy illness with love, strength and kindness. In addition to his immediate family, Dick is survived by his three brothers and four sisters, many nieces and nephews, some of whom he has lovingly mentored, and several grands and his loyal friends at the Burg, among many others. Services will be held on Thursday, May 10, at 2:00 p.m. at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle. Memorials are suggested to the Bloedel Hearing Research Center, Box 357923, University of Washington, Seattle 98195 or charity of your choice.
